Want to learn a new art? This fun course will take you on an imaginative journey bringing a story to life through the magic of two-dimensional cutout animation. You don't have to be an artist or have any art experience!
We will begin with cutting photographs, found images, plain paper, fabric, or whatever flat material you would like to use to create a movie starting with a simple collaged idea. Just a few pieces of material can create a wonderful animation. As the course progresses, you can try more complicated, longer animations and green screen production. You will create a variety of cool animation films that you can use for your business, social media and share with family and friends.
All you need is your Android, iPhone or iPad, the free Stop Motion Studio Pro software ($5.99), iMovie software (standard on all iPhones and iPads) and any flat material you’d like to use in your animation. Shelley will provide materials as well and walk you through the entire process, step by step, such as general information about animation and how it works, examples of wonderful animators, collage and story ideas, downloading and using the software, choosing your material, lighting, and post process editing of your animations including how to add voice over sound, titles and credits.
An Animation Film Screening will take place in early December (date and location TBD) upon the conclusion of the class and you will be able to screen your animation film creations along with the youths in my other classes (if you choose)."
SHELLEY CARLISLE, a multi-media artist, has a zest for adventure and photographing the awesome and mystical spaces where she hunts for the most unique scenes to capture the beauty and grandeur of Mother Nature and the Sacred Feminine. Through sharing these photographic images, Shelley hopes to inspire the viewer to step inside a magical place where one has been spiritually transported and can viscerally experience the sublime majesty of the natural world.
Shelley employs her photography in 2D cut-out animation, collage, video, and installation, bringing the themes and stories behind nature symbolism, numerology, mythology, and ancient cultures to life, combined with imaginative contemporary templates that together evoke remembrance of our spiritual selves and honor feminine energies and archetypes. She creates meditative environments with her original music and photographs, mirror, film, and projection to inspire metaphorical and literal reflection.
Shelley is a recipient of the 2021 Mills College Nancy Cook Fellowship Award, a photographic finalist in 2021 & 2022 competitions such as ADC Fine Arts Competition Art Comes Alive, AAP Magazine Colors, and Save The Bay’s annual wildlife photographic contest. She exhibits nationally, resides on a nature sanctuary in Nevada City, California, and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art degree from Mills College, Oakland California. "
